Common questions

Is this how Koreans would really write my name?

Yes. For common names we use the spelling Koreans actually use in news and official writing, based on the National Institute of Korean Language rules. Names not in our dictionary get an approximate spelling, and we tell you when that happens.

What is the “Korean name for you”?

We pick three real, popular Korean names (birth registration statistics since 2008) whose Hanja meaning matches the meaning of your name. For example, Lucy means “light”, so you get names written with 明 (bright). It is for fun, not a translation.

What is the certificate (撰名證)?

In Korea, professional name-makers give a certificate with the chosen Hanja, the meaning of each character, the stroke counts and the four “元亨利貞” numbers of traditional name study. We make one for the Korean name you pick, just for fun.

Do you store my name?

No. Everything runs in your browser and the name you type is never sent to a server.
